Pumping up virtual balloon

Sup peeps so pumping up a virtual balloon with a Tangible HID. We found out that theres a game like this on the wii but this would be x100 better with a more realistic input. We discussed using a hand AND foot controlled pump. Some footpumps pictured below, then we just need to work out a way of getting input from them. We could use a mouse clicker thats been pulled apart under the pedal so it gets clicked down when pushed on. If we could make a way that it would measure the intensity or effort that would be genius, ie you get more from long hard pushes that just tapping it .

  1. i think this would so work with alternate minigames, so not only just balloons.
i would suggest a elevator game, where your controlling an elevator shaft, more pressure it goes up and less for down and maintain it to allow people to get on, and then on different levels random generate people with a indicator of what level people want to go on and you'd be adheeding to there needs trying to get the highest score.

another minigame, how much pressure can you build in a water rocket within a a time limit and see how high it goes.

your in a mine cart and your about to be run over by a boulder, but the mine cart is powered by a lever, this may also incorporate 2 player co op, so one pushes down as the other pulls up and then continue in that fashion.

i like the idea, but how to measure effort?, for the games i suggested just takes effort of rappid clicking except the elevator game.

  2. The phidget can be connected to a pressure sensor, it only costs a few dollars!
You can also measure people's heartrate, Junki borrowed the heart rate monitor previously, or you can buy a Suunto one.
    Keep up the good work!

  3. I've acquired a yellow foot pump like the one shown above, miya has a usb mouse, the heart rate monitor could be aawsum! also i had a brainwave.. mibee we could use a webcam to capture a side on view of the pump and because its yellow use something in the way of gerrards colour motion detection UT game to convey the teqnique! ie small fast pumps or longer rythmic style? I cant remember what this came under from floyds design framework but it would allow players more mastery of the contoller.

  9. see how you do with the money, ask if they can give a discount, or check how much money you need for the rest of it, it's ok if you are a bit over as long as you an afford it. Or see if you can get a similar sensor from jaycar or farnell.
